Can my preschooler attend Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday?

No. We only offer Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday schedules. We do not offer custom day combinations.

What requirements do you have for your teachers?

Lead teachers for preschool classrooms must have a bachelor’s degree. Teacher assistants must have either a college degree or high school diploma.
All teachers and teacher assistants are native Spanish speakers. Teachers must pass state and federal background checks as well as be trained in CPR every two years.

Where are your teachers from?

SWS teachers and staff come from all parts of Latin America, including Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Peru, Venezuela, El Salvador, Honduras, as well as from the United States and Spain.

How do teachers communicate with parents?

SWS uses the Brightwheel application for communication with parents. You will receive daily reports from teachers as well as pictures and updates throughout the day. Administration will also use the Brightwheel application, as well as emails, to communicate pertinent information. We also hold Parent/Teacher conferences in the Fall and Spring.

What do parents need to provide each day?

Parents provide snacks, lunch and all necessary supplies, including diapers, wipes and extra clothes. We are not able to microwave food and encourage parents to pack hot food in thermos containers. Parents are also responsible for sending water bottles, which will be re-filled throughout the day.

Do parents provide nap mats?

Yes. All students over the age of 12 months sleep on a nap mat. We can provide you with recommendations of where to purchase quality nap mats.

What if my child doesn’t nap?

Nap time is from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Students are expected to rest for at least 30 minutes, whether by sleeping or lying quietly on their nap mat. Children who do not fall asleep will be offered a quiet activity for the remainder of the rest period.

How does the school handle student food allergies?

Parents are responsible for letting the administration know of any food allergies. Signs will be displayed outside of classrooms alerting teachers and visitors of any food allergies. Teachers will closely monitor students with food allergies during snack and lunch times. Students may store epi-pens in the front office. All food allergy information is shared with all classroom parents to ensure that any special treats provided by parents adhere to students’ individual needs. Any changes to students’ food allergies must be communicated with the school administration.

Are vaccines required?

As a licensed daycare center, we follow the Department of Health and Human Services minimum standards, which include being up-to-date on state-required vaccines. Parents who choose a different vaccine schedule must provide a doctor’s note and notarized affidavit provided by the state.

Does the school have cameras that parents can access?

Classroom and outdoor cameras are used for surveillance purposes only. We do not offer a streaming platform for parents to observe students at school.

What’s the security like?

All doors at both campuses are locked throughout the school day and can be opened only with an access control card provided to staff members. There are intercoms at the main entrances which connect to the offices. At the Haskell location, the gate at the school entrance is open only during drop-off and pick-up times. Parents and visitors must call the office to have the gate opened during school hours. The gate at the school exit opens and closes automatically when cars leave the parking lot.

All SWS campuses have full-time security coordinators, who continually monitor activity in the parking lots and the outdoor perimeters of the campuses during the school day. Security coordinators also help during drop-off and pick-up to ensure safe and efficient traffic patterns as families enter and exit the campuses.

Does my child have to be potty trained to attend SWS?

No. Once your child is ready to start potty training, parents should communicate with classroom teachers so that it can be a team effort. Teachers will work closely with students depending on their individual needs to help them achieve this important milestone.

Do students have recess?

We love being outside! Full-time students will have 2 – 3 recess periods throughout the day. Infants enjoy stroller rides as well. All students have physical education in the school gym as a set part of their daily routine.
