Manuela Ortega

SWS - Skillman Director
Nursery & Preschool

Manuela was born in Queens, New York, and grew up in Medellín, Colombia. Her life as a bilingual learner has allowed her to explore careers in social work, human resources, adult language instruction and office administration. However, upon entering the doors of Spanish House in 2015, she found a new passion for early childhood education and made a commitment to the school’s growth and continued development. Her creativity and connection with the school community allow her to passionately lead a diverse and vibrant group of teachers, students and families. After serving as a school administrator and Spanish House Nursery Director, she assumed the role of SWS – Skillman director in 2020.

Manuela completed her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at Pontificia Bolivariana University in 2014, Colombia. She has lived in Dallas since 2014.

Monica Toro - Spanish World School

Monica Toro

Academic Director (Skillman & Haskell)
Nursery & Preschool

Mónica Toro was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and has dedicated much of her life to developing cultural and educational programs. She is a psychologist with a master’s degree in cultural management and has received training in music therapy and neurological approaches to learning differences. She previously worked as a clinical consultant, managing projects for institutions dedicated to child development. While in Colombia, she participated in various research projects as well as government initiatives to develop new models of education to best serve young children. Monica views education from a cultural perspective, which has allowed her to develop programs rooted not only in cognitive abilities but also social and civic development. She began working for Spanish World School in 2016, convinced of the importance of multilingualism and fascinated by the school’s respect for cultural diversity.  She is a true believer in Project-Based Learning and loves watching the schools transform each month in alignment with the projects. She works closely with the teachers at the Skillman and Haskell campuses to ensure that students are provided with new opportunities to discover their talents, abilities and passions.
